Make your USB read only while putting in other's machines.

Now a days most of the people might have an experience from virus attacks after giving their USB Pendrives to their friends or putting it in other's systems. My machine doesn't have any virus "I think so". Up to this point it is OK. But what about other's machines? To prevent your USB virus attacks from others system here is a tip for you.

Recently the most common viruses attacking USB drives are:
folder.exe
,.exe
thumb.dll
Scandle.exe

Preventing method is, after writing files or data into your Pendrive just make it as "Write Protect". If someone need the data they can "Copy" it and "Paste" in their machine. But they don't have chance to write again into it. Or the viruses in their system will not enter into your write protected USB Device.

You can do it by a small utility i.e "Thumbscrew".

Procedure:
1. Download thumbscrew.zip extract it.
Open thumbscrew folder Double click on the .exe file.

2. You can see a tray icon with USB logo.
3. Write file you need into the USB drive (i.e Pendrive).
4. Write click on the tray icon and click on "Make USB Read Only".

5. Then remove your USB drive safely.

That's it. Now your pen drive is Write Protected. No one can write again.
Virus will not attack your "USB Drive".
If some one wants to write in the drive an error message dialogue box will appear
like this,

To make it "Write" just put your "USB pendrive" to your machine right click on
the tray Icon and click "Make USB writable". That's it. Now your USB Pendrive
is read and write mode.

So Guys prevent your machine form virus attacks form "USB pendrives" data travelers by thumbscrew.

If you like this post rate it and give your comments up on it.

Restore accidentally deleted from your computer by Recuva

Accidentally deleted data from your hard disk? No Problem dear...
Here is a solution to retrieve them by Recuva. By Recuva you can retrieve data even if you delete them by suing SHIFT+DELETE key. We generally think that by using SHIFT+DEL data may lost permanently. But it's wrong. But Recuva you can!

Recuva (pronounced "recover") is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

Recuva supports:
► FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, NTFS5 , NTFS + EFS file systems
► Restores files from removable media (SmartMedia, Secure Digital, MemoryStick, Digital cameras, Floppy disks, Jaz Disks, Sony Memory Sticks, Compact Flash cards, Smart Media Cards, Secure Digital Cards, etc.)
► Can be run from a USB thumb drive
► It's fast, tiny and takes seconds to run!

► Select drive
► Click on Scan
► Select files which you want to recover
► Click on Recover
► Save it.

Make sure that it is better to recover files as quick as possible when you accidentally deleted. Because newly updated data may over write on deleted data space. This results incorrect backup of your lost files.

Are you a human? Spam code

Have you ever ever think about the code like below ? LOL, every internet user may encountered this tricky logic of websites.

I think most of the websites while registering (Sign up) our account in their sites they asks us to enter some code as it shows a distorted image like above. For example in Yahoo, G-Mail while we are registering a new e-mail account it asks. Some websites asks like this "Are you a human?". Then we have to type a code in box below it. Till now I observed lot of websites and just left it. While registering my friend's account (Who is newbie to internet) in yahoo he aked "Why to type that code?". Then I started to think "Why?". Now I got that answer by searching on google.
That is here for you.

"Now a days computers and Internet have evolved to the point when software tools ( such as standalone programs or web scripts ) can perform automated task on the web, such as navigating from website to website ( spiders ) filling and submitting web forms.

This task was difficult many years ago, and people did not thought much about it back then. But now, with the increasing amount of SPAM and the advanced script languages, many hackers and spammers are writing and using scripts to automatically fill and submit forms."

The mistory behind of the code requires that the user have to type the letters of a distorted image, sometimes with the addition of an obscured sequence of letters or digits that appears on the screen. This usually ensures that only humans can enter the correct answer, because is difficult ( but not impossible! ) for machines to extract the letters and digits from the image. So finally what I concluded my self is that, to prevent spam websites uses that code.

Here is site to accomplish above task in your website http://www.captcha.net/. This provides free service to prevent spam in your websites. For more information go through it's home page.-

Delete files securely with File Shredder

With File Shredder you can remove files from your hard drive without fear they could be recovered. There are quite a few software tools today for retrieval of deleted files under Windows OS. Those tools, often referred to as "file recovery" software, are taking advantage of shortcoming of Windows "delete" command that we all use regularly to delete files.

Actually, the "delete" operation in Windows only removes bits of information from files so they appear deleted in OS. It is easy to retrieve those files using aforementioned specialized file recovery software.

In order to remove, or shred files permanently from your system you have to use a program that is capable of rewriting the files with random series of binary data multiple times. This process is often called shredding. That way, the actual content of the file has been overwritten and the possibilities to recover such a shredded file are mostly theoretical.

File Shredder has been developed as fast, safe and reliable tool to shred company files. I believe this utility should be available to anyone for free and that permanent and safe removal of confidential documents is a matter of basic right to privacy.

In File Shredder you can choose between 5 different shredding algorithms, each one gradually stronger than the previous one. It also has integrated Disk Wiper which uses shredding algorithm to wipe unused disk space. More on options of File Shredder check Online Help page.

Move your "My documents" Folder in safe place

"My documents" in windows is the very important folder. I think everybody know it.
It is default folder in windows. Most of the people don't know that we can change the default path of "My documents" folders to other drives. As we all know, My Documents is the most popular folder where computer users save almost all his or her data including but not limited to videos, musics, pictures and important documents.

Some times when we are saving any document it will directly shows the path to save in my documents folder. So using "My documents" folder is very popular.

Now a days virus attacks make our system to become crashes down. Some times windows my crash up due to boot failures. So in that cases we can't backup our data. So it is better to save "my doucments" folder in other drive rather than windows installed drive.

To do this fallow these steps

In general "My documents" folder is placed in C: drive i.e windows default installation drive.

"Just right click the My Documents shortcut on desktop and click on the "Move" button and choose the location where you want to transfer your My Documents folder and then click OK."

Now your data will be secure when your system crashes.

True crypt is an Open source tool for storing data securely. TrueCrypt is a software system for establishing and maintaining an on-the-fly-encrypted volume (data storage device). On-the-fly encryption means that data are automatically encrypted or decrypted right before they are loaded or saved, without any user intervention. No data stored on an encrypted volume can be read (decrypted) without using the correct password/keyfile(s) or correct encryption keys. Entire file system is encrypted (e.g.., file names, folder names, contents of every file, free space, meta data, etc).
Truecrypt supports two types of encryption process. One is standard truecrypt and hidden true crypt. Select standard truecrypt option is the better choice to the beginner. I already said in my previous posts by truecrypt we can create encrypts volumes for removale storage devices too. In the next option software asks you, to whether select the file or device. You select it according to your requirement.
Don't confuse to look for the created encrypted drive after encryption process. It has to mount. Select mount option for particular drive letter where the encrypted file is stored
The great feature of the truecrypt is its encryption algorithms. Here you can choose any encryption algorihms which is better fit for the choice of encryption level. True crypt allows only a larger and complex passwords only.

Note:
Be careful the user who are using it at first. I lost my 14GB data with wrong selection of options.
Be careful while selecting mount partitions. But don't have fear about data loss. You should not fear to do any experiment. In your life toooooo.

Very Important SecurityTips

The openness of the Internet has dramatically transformed global communications, making it easy for people around the world to exchange information. But the very same openness also creates an enormous problem. Anyone can access the network, yet not everyone has good intentions.

Some engage in malicious mischief by unleashing destructive software programs, while others view hacking computer networks as sport. Then there are people with criminal goals in mind.

To avoid becoming a victim of misguided pranksters or cyber-crime, take the time to examine the security of your personal data. Here are our recommendations, along with links to more detailed information:

1. Use anti-virus software:
Viruses spread rapidly and can damage or destroy your computer. New ones appear almost daily. It's critical that you install and update anti-virus software regularly. Use the program to scan all the files on your system once a week, deleting the infected ones.

2. Be wary of e-mail attachments:
A virus can hide in an attachment. Opening it will unleash the virus. Don't open an attachment from anyone you don't know. Even if you do know the sender, an infected attachment may have been surreptitiously sent from an infected machine. The safest thing to do is to scan the attachment with anti-virus software before you open it.

3. Install a firewall on your computer:
A firewall is a software program that blocks unauthorized access to your computer. This is particularly important if you have a broadband connection, such as DSL or a cable modem. Windows XP has a built-in firewall, so make sure it's activated if you use that operating system. If not, we recommend ZoneAlarm. You can download it for free for personal use from Zone Labs.
Or better to use open source software "Comodo Firewall".

4. Protect your passwords:
Many online services, such as banking, brokerage and e-mail require the use of passwords. A secure password is the first line of defense against cyber-snoops. Use a different password for each account, don't divulge them to anyone and change them periodically.

5. Update security patches for your operating system and web browser:
You've probably read about security "holes" that turn up periodically. Once they are discovered, you can download fixes. For Windows users, an easy way to update your system is click on the Windows Update option under the Start menu.

6. Back up your data:
Make copies of your files in case they become corrupted, your system fails or your computer is damaged or stolen. Get in the habit of doing this regularly, at least once a week.

7. Log offline when you are done for the day:
You are most vulnerable when connected to the Net. If there isn't a good reason to remain online, disconnect from the networ.

8.Use some of the third party encryptions softwares:
True crypt is the better tool to encrypt your files ,folders ,entire hard disk and your USB too....
Download and install it form www.truecrypt.org/

Follow these tips and you will enhance your personal security and the health of your PC.

temp2.exe (irc.momma worm) - How i got to remove it successfully

(This Technique I found from another blog who writes like me. But it is more useful to you. This is for you.)

temp2.exe and/or temp1.exe, both these two viruses irritated me for some time yesterday. While i was copying some files using flash drive, my machine got to threaten of this virus. Some anti viruses treated it as worm, though it harms seriously. Mainly it deteriorates the data flow. So its related to network security. I clearly came to evidence that temp2.exe and temp1.exe are running on my system and until i ended them, i cant be able to detach the removable devices. In addition, when i tried to open other windows partitions, they are opened as new window, even though i havnt used that option. I addition it adds autorun option in the context menu explorer.

When i digg into the details, i came to know much about the virus, how its working, and all. If we are copying from infected machine, this virus puts three files along with the data into the disk.

They are: copy.exe, host.exe and autorun.inf
autorun.inf file contains only two lines.

[autorun]
open=copy.exe

when we open the infected disk, autorun will invokes and virus starts acting by running the copy.exe file. It creates a dump of above three files in root directory of each partition and make a copy of copy.exe in system32 directory. Also a copy of temp1.exe and temp2.exe wlould be kept in system32. Along with it corrupts the xcopy.exe and svchost.exe files in system32.exe. It also kept registry entry.

Steps to remove the virus:

So to remove the virus one has to be careful. First off the system restore monitoring. Then delete the three-files from root directory of each partition. Also remove copy.exe, xcopy.exe, temp1.exe, temp2.exe and svchost.exe from system32 directory. And the remaining is deleting the entries in registry. So to do that search in the registry for each of the file entries and manually delete them. After that restart your machine. So u will be out of that little dragon. a old copy of svchost.exe and xcopy.exe will be written back into your machine.

To check whether the virus got cleared or not, by observing the file properties of these two files. They must indicate the company info as 'Microsoft Corporation...'. If they are not from microsoft corporation, and anything which are residing in system32 directory must be from microsoft, else u can suspect of a malicious entry. After successful removal of the virus, u can continue by checking the system restore monitoring.
